What does dehydrated skin mean?

Dehydrated skin means that your skin lacks water. A dehydrated skin can appear dry, itchy   uneven and perhaps dull looking too.

Is Dehydrated skin same as dry Skin?

Dehydrated skin is sometimes used interchangeably with dry skin. These, however, are two distinct occurrences. Dehydrated skin lacks water, whereas dry skin lacks natural oils (also known as sebum). Furthermore, dry skin is a skin type, whereas dehydration is a disease. Normal, dry, combination, and oily skin types exist. Although you are born with one kind of skin, it can vary with age and season. When you have dry skin, your sebaceous glands don’t produce enough natural oils.

Dehydrated skin can also be oily, which might sound contradictory.

What causes Dehydrated skin?

Dehydrated skin could be a result of various reasons like less intake of water, environment (dry air, extreme temperatures, sun exposures), lot of caffeine consumption. Certain skincare products like cleansers, makeup and incorrect use of such products could lead to a dehydrated skin.

Each of these elements contribute to the reduction of moisture within your skin, prompting making your body to generate additional oil to counterbalance the lack of hydration.
